CRUISE THINKS HE’S TOO BIG TO BE BAD!

- Tom Cruise and Gal Gadot did not respond to requests for comment.

WHOA! Tom Cruise has turned down pal Gal Gadot’s request to play a super- villain in the next “Wonder Woman” movie — because he wouldn’t be the star, spies dished.

The “Top Gun” hunk, 58, considers himself a “box office Superman” and wasn’t about to take second billing in what’s expected to be a blockbuster, according to sources!

Despite taking supporting roles in 1999’s “Magnolia” and 2008’s “Tropic Thunder,” insiders spilled Tom has decided if he ever chooses to be in a comic book flick, he’ll be the superhero!

“What mattered to him is ‘Wonder

Woman 1984’ is

Gal’s project — not his,” the source said. “But when and if he does this kind of movie, he knows he’ll be running the show and the camera will be focused squarely on him and not on anyone else.”

Sources said Gal, 35, was banking on the friendship she’d forged with the

“Risky Business” star when they made the 2010 action comedy “Knight and Day” together.

Spies also snitched the onetime Miss Universe contestant was a little hurt when her former co-star rebuffed her offer for the high-profile gig!

“It wasn’t like it was a small part,” the source dished. “As the villain, he was going to get camera time … but Tom likes to be the hero.”

“He’s sorry that Gal and director Patty Jenkins were disappointed, but that’s his decision,” added the insider.
