COPS PINNED TEEN’S DEATH ON SKAKEL TO GET KENNEDYS – AND MISSED NEW SUSPECT

-

ROGUE investigators framed Ethel Kennedy’s troubled nephew Michael Skakel for the murder of Connecticut teen Martha Moxley, according to a law enforcement source — in a bid to get the Kennedy clan!

With the 45th anniversary of the crime nearing, The National ENQUIRER has learned a private eye involved in the case claims a botched probe targeted Skakel — and a new murder suspect has emerged!

“The Kennedy family disagrees on many issues, but they are totally united in their belief Michael was framed,” a Kennedy insider told The ENQUIRER.

“They think he was set up by anti-Kennedy prosecutors too stupid or lazy to find the real killer!” Now, Vito Colucci Jr., a renowned private eye involved with the Moxley case for decades, has claimed the investigation was fumbled from the start by local cops who had virtually no experience conducting a murder probe.

“It was a terrible investigation,” Vito — a former Stamford, Conn., police officer — told The ENQUIRER. “The crime scene was contaminated, and the Greenwich police did a horrible job. They looked at a number of suspects but got hooked on Michael [Skakel]. “They had a we-got-our-guy attitude and never followed up other leads that I know of.” Greenwich police did not respond to The ENQUIRER’s request for comment.

The killing of 15-yearold Martha — who was

bludgeoned to death with a golf club on Oct. 30,

1975, in Greenwich — has long been a mystery.

But as The ENQUIRER has reported, Skakel’s lawyer, Stephan E. Seeger, recently revealed hairs found on Martha’s body may be linked to a suspect convicted of a similar attack in the area in 1977 and being held in a California prison. The defense team plans to interview that victim, and Skakel’s cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr. intends to interview the jailed suspect in person, sources said.

Skakel, now 59, was found guilty of Martha’s murder in 2002 and sentenced to 20 years to life. But he was released on bond in 2013 after arguing his attorney failed to adequately represent him. He won a stunning legal victory last year when the Connecticut Supreme Court agreed to leave in place a lower court’s decision to vacate his murder conviction. The new suspect’s identity has been given to prosecutors at the Connecticut State Attorney’s Office.

Reports of the new suspect came one week after The ENQUIRER reported dying 92-year-old Ethel, the widow of slain Robert F. Kennedy, secretly ponied up a $1 million bounty to find Martha’s killer and prove her nephew’s innocence. “Ethel knows she has little time left, but she has one last task she desperately wants to complete before she rejoins Bobby,” the insider said. “That is to finally discover the real murderer of Martha Moxley — and clear the Skakel and Kennedy names.”
