Addiction and abuse charges fly back and forth
HART OF DIXIE” star Jaime King is locked in a vicious war with estranged husband Kyle Newman — who has accused her of being a “chronic drug addict and alcoholic” and cleaning out their bank accounts! In response to Jaime’s original divorce filing on
May 18, Kyle blasted his spouse and now claims she “looted” their joint bank accounts, leaving him in “financially dire straits.” Jaime, 41, filed for divorce after 12 years of marriage and was granted a temporary restraining order requiring
Kyle to stay 100 yards away — which he called “baseless and defamatory.”
She also filed an emergency court order regarding custody of their two kids, Leo, 5, and James, 6, which was denied. The 44-year-old director had previously alleged his actress wife relapsed in January and began “drinking even more heavily.” The “Sin City” star and former model became addicted to heroin at age 14, but claimed she went to rehab and quit after the death of her photographer boyfriend in 1997.
However, Kyle claimed she was abusing drugs during her two pregnancies and that their son Leo was born “addicted to opiates.”
Kyle — who said he makes just $750 a month now as a writer — claimed he had to give up his directing career to look after their family.
“I reorganized my life entirely to take care of [the] kids because of Jaime’s addiction problems,” he stated in court papers.
After their unsuccessful settlement talks in June, he claimed Jaime went to Canada to film her Netflix show,
“Black Summer,” leaving the boys with him for four months “without support or any funds.”
But Jaime’s version of events is different. She said she attended a testing facility in January and proved she was drug free and has previously unleashed a barrage of accusations that Kyle verbally and emotionally abused her, which he has denied.
