Teaming with Tom to scrape off tarnish of Masterson rape case
MEGASTAR Elisabeth Moss has been crowned the new queen of Scientology and is teaming with church poster boy Tom Cruise to rehab the religion’s scandal-scarred image, sources claimed. Insiders told The National ENQUIRER Elisabeth, 38, is tasked with rallying the faithful in California after the church came under fire when member Danny Masterson was charged with raping three women, who also sued Scientology for stalking and harassment related to the case. The women’s suit against the organization is now in court-ordered mediation. “That ’70s Show” star Masterson pleaded not guilty in the criminal case and denies any wrongdoing. Scientology also insists the claims against the church are untrue. However, sources claimed Scientology honchos — led by David Miscavige — are hoping the award-winning actress’ new status in the church will remove some of the tarnish, spark an influx of new members and give the religion a new female face after John Travolta’s beloved wife, Kelly Preston, died last year.
“Kelly’s death means Elisabeth is probably the most famous and successful female Scientologist at the moment,” dished an insider. “With Cruise basing himself in London and the church headquartered in Florida, it means Elisabeth is Scientology’s leading member in Hollywood.
“While Tom can be overt and even overbearing in his public activities on behalf of the faith, Elisabeth is leading more by example. That’s in line with her being raised in the church as opposed to coming to it as an adult, like Tom.”
The fiercely private actress — who has kept her love life under wraps since a
2011 divorce from actor Fred Armisen — is known as one of the hardest working stars in Tinseltown, much to the delight of church leaders. “Her whole thing is showing people how normal it is to be a working Scientologist in Hollywood,” divulged an insider. “Elisabeth is famous for her incredibly focused and disciplined behavior on set. “Tom is the opposite. In his movies, he’s the center of gravity doing daredevil stunts while still making time for any church event he’s needed for.” “Elisabeth is dominating, like Tom, but in her quiet, serious, non-flashy way. And it’s working: She has more work than she could ever need, and people are dying to act opposite her.
“Like Tom, that makes her into a walking commercial for how great Scientology is and how even after 40-some years of nonstop controversy, church members are still rocketing to the top in Hollywood.”
