WIFE-KILLER PETERSON DUCKS DEATH PENALTY!
Wins a round on path to freedom
CONVICTED murderer Scott Peterson is being sprung from death row, and sources claimed the jailbird now hopes to be released from prison before the end of the year!
The California Supreme Court recently overturned the death penalty handed to Scott in 2005 over the deaths of his pregnant wife,
Laci, and unborn son, Conner. Prosecutors said they will not seek to retry Scott’s penalty phase, meaning his sentence will become life without the possibility of parole.
But according to court documents, Scott’s lawyers are angling for a whole new retrial, arguing a juror had not disclosed a “prior involvement with other legal proceedings.” Scott, now 48, always maintained he was on a boat in the San Francisco Bay when Laci, 27, vanished from their Modesto home on Christmas Eve 2002.
Four months later, her decomposed torso and Conner’s remains washed up around two miles from where Scott had told police he was fishing.
However, there was little physical evidence in the case and the prosecution relied on expert witnesses and circumstantial evidence for a conviction.
Peterson’s lawyer Pat Harris said, “This case is going to get overturned eventually.
“The facts are coming out more and more. We’re learning about what happened. We think we know who killed Laci Peterson.”
If a new trial is granted, insiders said Peterson’s lawyers will argue he should be set free to prepare for his defense.
A source added: “Scott believes he could be out of prison altogether before the end of the year.”
Peterson did not respond to a request for comment.
