ANTIBIOTICS MAY TARGET CANCER
ANTIBIOTICS could be a breakthrough treatment for cancer! In a new study, researchers made a yeast cell more bacteria-like, altered it using biochemistry and fine genetics and then were able to see how a common antibiotic interacted with it. “This showed us, conceptually, that antibiotics can be used to selectively inhibit protein
synthesis in human cells and treat human disorders caused by ‘bad’ proteins,” such as cancer, said study author Alexander Mankin of the University of IllinoisChicago.
