“Somebody Like You.” Although the kids’ biological father is Niki’s ex-hubby, bighearted Keith treated the boys as his own, according to his old pal David Dobson. Recalling a night with the singer, David told The National ENQUIRER: “Keith was telling me how he wasn’t going to let ‘his kids’ use the computer or the internet.
“I said, ‘They are not your kids, Keith, they are Niki’s. They have a father, and it’s up to him to say what they can or cannot do.’
“He insisted that they were ‘his kids.’ So, being a father myself who will stand up for a father’s rights, I asked, ‘Well if they are your kids, what are their middle names?’ That shut his narcissistic ass down fast!” To back his claim, David shared a never-before-seen letter written and signed by Keith the day after their spat. In it, the singer apologized and referred to Jake and Hunter as “my boys.”
The note read: “You asked me if I knew what my two boys’ middle names were and I didn’t know! That hit home. I thank you for being my friend and pray that I am there to listen when you need a friend. Love … Keith.”
David, who’s been candid about dealing drugs to Keith in the past, revealed the hitmaker cut him out of his life after meeting Nicole in 2005 and getting sober.
The “Blue Ain’t Your Color” singer, 54, now shares daughters Sunday, 13, and Faith, 10, with Nicole, 54, and Niki has never publicly commented on whether she or her boys — whose father is former football player Matt Martinez — are still in touch with Keith.
Via email, the twins, who are on the verge of their 27th birthday, told The ENQUIRER, “We want to assure you
there were no feelings of abandonment. We have nothing but respect for Keith.” A source said: “Keith stopped talking to some of his closest friends from those days the second he married Nicole, so there’s no reason to think he’s still in touch with his ex or the boys he once called his own.”
One longtime pal Keith snubbed is Marlon Holden, his former bass player, according to insiders.
Marlon died in Australia in December after battling cancer — and sources revealed his family was shocked Keith never offered his support or condolences. A source revealed: “Here’s a person worth $75 million, and he didn’t even send flowers.”
