UKRAINE: DEFIANCE & DESPAIR!

Heroic Americans put lives on line to drive out invaders

-

BRAVE New Jersey carpenter Andrew Bennett is laying down his hammer and picking up arms to join a legion of Americans heading to Ukraine to fight for freedom against twisted tyrant Vladimir Putin’s war machine! Even though he has no previous military experience, the outraged 45-year-old hard hat is heading to the war-torn European nation to do his bit after seeing ruthless Russian invaders bomb children’s hospitals, shoot innocent seniors and crush fleeing refugees under tons of rubble!

“I’m packing a duffel bag full of stuff as if I’m never coming home,” Andrew tells The National ENQUIRER. “I hope I do, but there are more important things.”

At least 3,000 other Americans feel the same and have signed on with more than 20,000 volunteers from 52 countries who’ve heeded the call of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky to “defend the liberty and life of us and of everyone.”

James McCall, a Ukrainebound U.S. Army veteran from Oklahoma, calls Putin’s cowardly attack an assault on democracy and freedom. He proclaims, “It’s my duty as a free man and as a free American to help.”

McCall, a father of four, plans to link up with two other Army vets, one ex-Navy man and three former Marines to offer their combat skills to the Ukrainians. He says his wife, Krystin, supports him “100 percent” because “she thinks it’s the right thing to do.” However, U.S. officials have urged Americans to avoid Ukraine — and heed the government’s warning about traveling to the blood-soaked land.

Meanwhile, a Russian Defense Ministry spokesman warns foreign fighters should “think a dozen times” before battling his nation’s forces, adding, “at best, they can expect to be prosecuted as criminals.”

But that threat doesn’t scare former Marine Dennis Diaz, a Connecticut father of four, who says Putin “crossed the line” by attacking civilians!

“If I were to die over there in Ukraine, then guess what? My children will know that I paid the highest price to be able to stand up and fight for what’s right,” says Diaz, 39.

For Bennett, the prospect of defending Ukraine is a return to a promise unfulfilled. After

9/11, he joined the Army but learned just after swearing in that his father had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

“I had to go back to my recruiter and tell him he had to get me out,” he explains. But now, Bennett is raring to do some good and says Putin’s “not going to go away on his own, and people need to step up. I’m ready to do my part.”

He claims he’ll carry a gun if given one but will otherwise join up with a humanitarian organization.

Bennett insists, “I’m not going over there to play Rambo,” Sylvester Stallone’s macho movie mercenary. “I can bandage people up.” Bennett, who says he’s “inspired” by the steadfast example of Zelensky rallying his citizens and the international community, notes Ukraine’s people are “fighting with all their soul.” He adds, “They’re not fighting for money, for fame or glory or honor. They’re fighting for the most important thing that a nation could fight for — the right to exist.”
