LIVID LOVE HOPED TO POKE HOLES IN MOLLY
GRUMPY grunge rocker Courtney Love stormed onto the “Saturday Night Live” set to beat up Molly Shannon for doing an impression of her as a boozy floozy, according to the famed funnylady.
In her tell-all “Hello, Molly!” the comic says the “Doll Parts” singer took issue with her 1995 spoof and recalls, “Someone told me, ‘Courtney Love is here, in the building, and she is hunting you down.’
“She was roaming around during the live broadcast shouting, ‘Where’s Molly!? I’m gonna kick her ass.’” The
admits being “petrified” and thinking, “I hope she’s not gonna punch me out.”
But Molly claims she defused the situation by bumming a cigarette off the Hole frontwoman and telling her: “I’m a big fan of yours, and the impression is a form of flattery.”
She adds, “It caught her by surprise. I flipped it on her.”
According to Molly, once the hothead cooled down, she “ended up being sweet.”
She insists, “I really was a giant fan. I went to see her perform when I still waited tables.” Molly says Courtney, 57, who’s the widow of Nirvana singer Kurt
Cobain, lightened up, and she continued to do the impression on the NBC show until 1998.
