A SERVING of cranberries a day can keep heart disease away! Scientists at King’s College London found less than a half cup of the fresh fruit daily boosted cardiac function — and the benefits appeared almost immediately! In their study, half of the 45 participants, all men, consumed nearly two teaspoons of whole cranberry powder — equivalent to 3.5 ounces of fresh cranberries — every day for a month. The rest took a placebo. The cranberry group showed notable increases in their flowmediated dilations (FMDs), signaling improvement in both heart and blood vessel function, which reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.
