Ross Mellinger says Palmer eluded justice for two years because his 51-year-old sister was so badly hurt during a 2020 beatdown lawmen “thought she was dead.” Unconscious Wanda was found in a pool of blood” at her Cottageville home, says her mom, Eileen, who lives nearby.
Says Sheriff Mellinger, “I wouldn’t have wagered a nickel for her life that morning. She was unconscious, circling the
drain medically.
“Massive, massive amounts of head trauma, consistent with some sort of machete or hatchet-type injury.”
Daniel was a suspect from the get-go, but “there was no eyewitness, no surveillance footage, nothing there to move forward on,” notes the lawman.
Finally on June 17, Wanda woke and began muttering words. Although suffering brain damage, she was later able to blame Daniel for the beating.
Mellinger says being able to solve this case is “as rare as it gets.”
