POP star Gwen Stefani’s ex Gavin Rossdale is squaring off against her new hubby, Blake Shelton, over who’s a better daddy, insiders tattle.
Rocker Gavin, 56, recently shared a rare pic with the kids he and Gwen share — Kingston, 16, Zuma, 13, and Apollo, 8 — because, sources say, he fears he’s being overshadowed as a father by superstar Blake. “Gavin is trying very hard to parent alongside Gwen, but he wants to make it perfectly clear he is the father of their sons, not Blake,” a source tells The National ENQUIRER.
“Gavin knows Gwen and Blake are huge stars, but he refuses to be forgotten as the father to his kids. “That’s why he posted that photograph of them — to remind everyone, including the kids, he is their dad.” When Gwen, 52, and Gavin got hitched in 2002, they were both riding high. He was leading Bush and she was singing in No Doubt. But Gavin’s star had already faded by the time he was caught in a 2015 cheating scandal and his marriage ended. Meanwhile, Gwen’s popularity continues to soar.
“Gwen was much better at being a celebrity than
Gavin, which was part of the reason their relationship was doomed,” notes a pal. “With
Blake, Gwen has found someone who loves the spotlight as much as she does. Together, they are both more famous than they were apart. None of that bothers Gavin, except when it comes to his kids.”
Blake, 46, is said to have gotten on Gavin’s nerves by continually gushing over being a stepdad, calling it “the most important role a man could ever have.”
Sources say he’s also peeved over Blake’s blatant attempts to outman him, which include hikes in the woods with the boys and posing in hunting gear. “Gavin couldn’t care less about what Gwen and Blake have to say about their amazing romance, but when it comes to his kids, he wishes they’d both just shut up,” reveals an insider. “He’s fine being erased from Gwen’s history, but he won’t be erased from his kids’ past, or their future.”
