UPSTART NETWORK CHASING MEGYN!
Hot to team Kelly and Cuomo
FIREBRAND TV news outcast Megyn Kelly is in talks to join CNN castaway Chris Cuomo at NewsNation, where she’s expected to settle old scores and repair her ravaged reputation, insiders say.
A week after announcing controversial Cuomo, 52, joined the fledgling news channel, sources claim execs pulled out all the stops to make Megyn, 51, their next big hire. “Conversations between Megyn and NewsNation have been going on for some time,” tattles a tipster. “But after the news that Chris was going there, they suddenly got
more serious.”
Megyn first made her mark as an outspoken reporter for FOX News and eventually hosted her own prime-time show, The Kelly File. She famously feuded with then presidential candidate Donald Trump before jumping to NBC in 2017.
Megyn’s direct style didn’t sit well with NBC honchos, especially for her daytime gabfest, Megyn Kelly Today. Her exit came in 2019 after she defended blackface Halloween costumes, but she reportedly left with her $69 million contract intact.
“Megyn and NBC were a bad fit from day one,” notes the source. “Moving from a prime-time news show to a morning show was not a good idea. Instead of covering breaking news, Megyn found herself interviewing celebrities and doing cooking segments.”
After leaving NBC, she launched The Megyn Kelly Show podcast, which focuses on politics.
“Megyn’s been dying to get back on TV, but after receiving millions from
NBC to leave the network, she’s been biding her time,” explains the source. “Meanwhile, Chris has opened up the floodgates to talent like her. No one wanted to be the first big name to sign a deal with such a small network.
“It looked like you weren’t getting any better offers, and they didn’t pay nearly as well as the established networks. But after
Chris, that has changed. They’re still not paying multimillions, but it’s no longer embarrassing.”
The source adds should Megyn sign with NewsNation, she’ll revive the tough firecracker personality that initially brought her fame.
Another insider poohpoohs the idea Megyn will ink a deal with NewsNation, but the sources insist, “Megyn is ready to make a comeback. She has some scores to settle, and NewsNation will give her that chance.”
