CBD OIL FOR PETS
We’ve been giving CBD oil to our aging Golden Retriever to help control his arthritic pain. It seems to help! Our older cat has similar problems. What about CBD oil for cats?
Q REPORTS of CBD oil use in cats is scarce. A recent toxicity study was completed, and doses significantly higher than those normally used produced minimal adverse effects. These effects were mild and did not require intervention.
Hemp-derived cannabis products (including CBD oil) cannot be recommended or prescribed by your veterinarian with the intent to treat or prevent a medical condition. So — in a way — you are on your own with little or no risk on the downside.
A caution: CBD oil is not a drug regulated by the FDA. There can be no claims to effectiveness and no agency checks regarding purity or potency.
The old adage “You get what you pay for” applies. If the NASC (National Animal Supplement Council) seal is found on the label, the product has been tested for purity and strength by an independent laboratory.
