LIFEGUARD’S SPLASHY DELIVERY!

-

COOLHEADED teen lifeguard Natalie Lucas dove into action to help deliver a baby at a YMCA pool!

Expectant mom Tessa Rider was taking a dip at the Longmont, Colo., gym to beat the heat on July 24 when her water broke.

“All of a sudden, I felt the need to push,” recalls Tessa, 29, who told her husband, Matthew Jones, to grab their things and meet her at the car.

But the baby wasn’t waiting, and when 18-year-old Natalie realized what was happening she grabbed some towels and a first aid kit, alerted staff by walkie-talkie and told another swimmer to call 911. Then she helped Matthew deliver Tobin “Toby” Thomas Rider into the world.

“I stayed calm, and didn’t freak out, because that’s what you need to do in this job,” says Natalie. “You can’t really hesitate or wait for someone else to come. You’re the lifeguard. You’re the lifesaver!”
