WILLIE SALUTES ALABAMA STAR’S POT BUST

-

COUNTRY band Alabama’s singer and bassist Teddy Gentry is gobsmacked about being busted for pot in his home state — but his consolation prize is getting high praise from his pal Willie Nelson! According to a police report, cops found weed in the 70-year-old music man’s car during a traffic stop in Cherokee County on Sept. 12. He was charged with possession and briefly jailed.

“Willie is a longtime friend of Teddy and his band, and he was the first to call Teddy after he heard about his arrest,” pipes a pal. “He welcomed Teddy into the ‘busted’ club and told him not to sweat it. Willie says he’s been popped five times for pot and he’s still standing!” Still, Gentry was embarrassed by the bust in Alabama, one of 18 U.S. states that have not decriminalized marijuana. “Teddy knows the laws of his home state and should have known better!” spills a source.
