NEW CANCER-KILLING PILL BEING TESTED!
A REVOLUTIONARY pill designed to kill cancer has been given to the first patient in a two-year clinical trial — and the recipient is healthy and doing well, researchers at City of Hope in L.A. say.
In earlier studies, the twice-daily drug, AOH1996, halted the growth of cancerous human cells by inhibiting their DNA repair — and did not harm healthy cells!
“Imagine a cancer as water filling a bathtub,” says Dr. Linda Malkas, trial co-investigator. “Left unchecked, the water — or tumors damage other parts of your home. The treatment is akin to shutting off the water — stopping the tumor spread — then draining the tub, eliminating the cancer.”
The drug has shown promise in lab experiments against breast, prostate, ovarian, skin and lung cancers. New therapies are needed as many cancers become resistant to existing meds, says Malkas, who hopes AOH1996 will become an FDA-approved treatment.
