Wife wades through trash for eight months before finding mummy
AN ILLINOIS hoarder searched her stinking hell house for eight long months until her missing husband finally turned up — as a mummified corpse in her closet! Incredibly, the stench of the gone guy’s decomposing body was masked by the even MORE overpowering sewer-like odor of the couple’s junk-filled home! Cops searched the cluttered, chaotic residence TWICE for signs of Richard Maedge, 53, last April when wife Jennifer reported him missing. His car, wallet and keys were home — but the father of three was nowhere in sight.
It wasn’t until December, when Jennifer was rummaging through the mess for holiday decorations in what cops describe as a “hoarder house,” that she stumbled upon her man’s mummified body in a closet, where he’d hanged himself eight months earlier! “I decided to put the Christmas tree up, and I was looking for a tote of Christmas ornaments, and that’s when I discovered him,” says the shell-shocked wife.
While in the closet, the body slowly mummified — which also helped mask the stench of death, according to cops, who say they ey do not suspect foul play. Coroners released a report saying the body passed the stage of decomposition and became mummified after all that time in the couple’s closet.
“There were no other injuries found during the autopsy examination or evidence found that would indicate anything nefarious regarding r Mr. Maedge’s Ma death,” reads the report. Jennifer, who says her husband’s “presence” was close to her all that time amid the towering stacks of stuff clogging their residence, is happy to get closure.
“Even though we didn’t want the outcome that we had, it’s still an outcome that we can put him to rest,” she says.
