THE HEARD MUSEUM in FEBRUARY and MARCH

A comprehensive calendar of events at the Heard Museum in February and March including the Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market.

-

February 1, 6-10 p.m. First Friday at the Heard

Exhibition Opening: Josef Albers in Mexico The exhibition elucidates the influence and connectivity between the work of Albers and the abstracted geometric vocabulary of pre-columbian art, architecture and material culture. Albers’ fascination with the visual culture of Mexico left an indelible mark on his own artistic production and methodology, with sites like Teotihuacán, Chichén Itza, Monte Albán, and Mitla infiltrating the visual framework of his work. Enjoy free general evening admission. Dine at the Café or Cantina. The Heard Museum Shop, the Collector’s Room and Books & More Shop Heard Museum campus www.heard.org

Through February 3 A Land North: Works from the Heard Museum Collection

This exhibition features pieces from the Heard Museum’s permanent holdings of Indigenous Alaskan and Canadian First Nations art. Kitchell Gallery, Heard Museum www.heard.org

Through February 3 Yua: Henri Matisse and the Inner Arctic Spirit

This exhibition explores the surprising and little-known story of how the Inuit people and culture inspired one of the 20th century’s most influential artists, Henri Matisse. Included in the exhibition are works by Matisse that have not been publicly shown in the United States, and reunited dozens of stunning Yup’ik (Alaskan Natives) mask sets that have been separated for more than a century.
