Native American Art

August in Santa Fe

-

As some of you know, we publish five different art magazines. And, because of this we go to most art fairs and exhibitions in the country, from Christie’s in Rockefeller Center to the Western Navajo Fair in Tuba City. If there is art hanging on a wall, we are there. Consequently, we see everything.

But, it goes without saying that our favorite art event each year is the SWAIA Santa Fe Indian Market. There’s no way to explain the joy and pure exhilaration that comes from being one of 80,000 people swarming the streets of Santa Fe to see the best work from the top Native artists across the country. Believe us when we say there is nothing quite like it. It will literally sweep you off your feet.

So you can imagine our disappointment when we heard that the physical market was canceled for this year and replaced with a virtual one. We love the idea of the virtual market and the excitement is growing. When we first started this issue there were only 100 artists participating in the event. Now, as we go to press two weeks later, there is close to 500.

We didn’t want to sit by and be complacent with this issue. So we traveled to Santa Fe, stopped by every gallery, auction house, collector and artist studio in town and found out that events were still being planned for August in Santa Fe. And not just a couple. Events all across town, from gallery strolls and tours to solo shows, auctions and fairs.

When we found this out, we decided to call this issue our “Santa Fe Issue” and inside you will find a complete and comprehensive guide to everything happening in Santa Fe—well actually in New Mexico for that matter—this August and September. We have maps and calendars, auction previews, gallery previews, events— you name it, we found out about it. And now, we offer it to you to prove that There will still be a Summer in Santa Fe. And, god willing, we will all be there to be a part of it!

Collectors will have this magazine in their hands by early July. Plenty of time to plan your trips and visit. And we hope to see you all there!

P.S. We are always looking for native events to share with our evergrowing lists of collectors and subscribers across the country. If you know of something you think we would be interested in, please email me at joshuarose@nativeamericanartmagazine.com.
