Pair facing drug charges in Milford

MILFORD — A Milford woman and a New York man face drug charges after a motor vehicle stop in the city earlier this week.

Tarita Banks, 55, of Joy Road in Milford, was charged with interferin­g with a police officer and conspiracy to commit possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

Carmichael Wright, 27, of East 205th Street in the Bronx, N.Y., was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, two counts of assault on a police officer, interferin­g with a police officer, conspiracy to commit possession of marijuana with intent to sell, failure to drive right and failure to obey an officer’s signal.

Wright’s bail was set at $50,000. Banks was released on a promise to appear. Both are expected in court Jan. 2.

Police were conducting a routine patrol Tuesday when they stopped a motor vehicle in the area of Baldwin Street and Naugatuck Avenue.

During the stop, the driver of the vehicle — later identified as Wright — allegedly “become combative with detectives before being taken into custody,” police said.

Wright and the passenger of the vehicle — identified as Banks — were taken into custody and charged.

Wright was accused of being in possession of more than 100 grams of marijuana pre-packaged for sale and an undisclose­d quantity of money.
