Pair fac­ing drug charges in Mil­ford

MIL­FORD — A Mil­ford woman and a New York man face drug charges af­ter a mo­tor ve­hi­cle stop in the city ear­lier this week.

Tarita Banks, 55, of Joy Road in Mil­ford, was charged with in­ter­fer­ing with a po­lice of­fi­cer and con­spir­acy to com­mit possession of mar­i­juana with in­tent to sell.

Carmichael Wright, 27, of East 205th Street in the Bronx, N.Y., was charged with possession of mar­i­juana with in­tent to sell, two counts of as­sault on a po­lice of­fi­cer, in­ter­fer­ing with a po­lice of­fi­cer, con­spir­acy to com­mit possession of mar­i­juana with in­tent to sell, fail­ure to drive right and fail­ure to obey an of­fi­cer’s sig­nal.

Wright’s bail was set at $50,000. Banks was re­leased on a prom­ise to ap­pear. Both are ex­pected in court Jan. 2.

Po­lice were con­duct­ing a rou­tine patrol Tues­day when they stopped a mo­tor ve­hi­cle in the area of Bald­win Street and Nau­gatuck Av­enue.

Dur­ing the stop, the driver of the ve­hi­cle — later iden­ti­fied as Wright — al­legedly “be­come com­bat­ive with de­tec­tives be­fore be­ing taken into cus­tody,” po­lice said.

Wright and the pas­sen­ger of the ve­hi­cle — iden­ti­fied as Banks — were taken into cus­tody and charged.

Wright was ac­cused of be­ing in possession of more than 100 grams of mar­i­juana pre-pack­aged for sale and an undis­closed quan­tity of money.
