Po­lice in­ves­ti­gate first homi­cide of the year

NEW HAVEN — Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the city’s first homi­cide of the year.

A man was found on the side­walk on Di­a­mond Street near Roger White Drive in the Beaver Hills neigh­bor­hood around 5:41 a.m. Thurs­day, po­lice said in a re­lease. Per­son­nel from the New Haven Po­lice Depart­ment, New Haven Fire Depart­ment and Amer­i­can Med­i­cal Re­sponse were dis­patched to the scene and med­i­cal per­son­nel be­gan ren­der­ing med­i­cal as­sis­tance, ac­cord­ing to the re­lease.

The man, later iden­ti­fied as 46-year-old city res­i­dent David Lon­don, was taken via am­bu­lance to Yale New Haven Hos­pi­tal, where he was pro­nounced dead.

Lon­don died as the re­sult of a gun­shot wound to the head, the Of­fice of the Chief Med­i­cal Ex­am­iner de­ter­mined after an au­topsy was per­formed Fri­day, po­lice said. His death is be­ing in­ves­ti­gated as a homi­cide, po­lice said.
