DENDAS, SR. , JOHN H.

John H. Dendas, Sr. (Major U. S. Army Ret.) of West Haven, formerly of Branford, died Saturday June 9, 2018 at Connecticut Hospice in Short Beach, Branford, where he grew up. He was the husband of Nancy Yale Dendas. John was born in New Haven October 17, 1931 son of the late Frank C. and Ann O’Connor Dendas. He served in the U. S. Army active duty for four years, and remained in the Army National Guard for 18 years, retiring as a Major. John was a real estate and insurance broker for many years in Branford. He was a longtime member of the Branford Democratic Town Committee and served as the Chairman of the Board of Education in Branford as well as Second Selectman under First Selectman Peter Ablondi in the 1980’s. After retiring, John loved remodeling houses with Nancy and spending time in the Florida panhandle. Life was good. Besides Nancy, John is survived by his children, Bonnie (Steve) Pascarella of Guilford, John H. (Maureen) Dendas, Jr. of Branford, and Joseph (Ina) Dendas of Branford; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and his brothersin-law, William Yale of West Haven and Fred Yale of Tombstone, AZ. He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan Murphy; sister Mary Taylor and his brothers, William and Frank Dendas.

Funeral from the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford Thursday morning at 10:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church at 11:00. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service from 9:30 – 10:30.
