STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS
Daniel B. Ormrod, whose parents, Jeffrey and Ann Ormrod, live in Branford, was awarded a Master of Public Health in environmental studies from New York Medical College on May 23.
Harris Andersen, 17 of Woodbridge, won first prize and Best Performance of a Commissioned Piece in the Renée B. Fisher Competition for Young Pianists-High School Division. He and other young pianists performed in a recital featuring the winners of the Fisher Competition on May 5 at Neighborhood Music School, New Haven. He began his piano studies at the age of 5 at Neighborhood Music School. He plans to study music education and piano performance at Ithaca College in the fall, according to a press release. Other local performers included: Elementary/middle school, commissioned work: Seorin Kim, Madison; 2nd Prize (tie): Jasmine Xi, Wallingford.
The Milford Historical Society recently gave History Awards to Ronald Gaul, of Foran High School, and Nick Distol, of Jonathan Law High School. Each student received a copy of the “History of Milford, Connecticut.” The winners were also given gifts from the MHS Country Store and memberships to the society.
Local students inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society of AACSB-accredited business schools, at a ceremony conducted by the Western New England University chapter officers: Adam vonFischer, majoring in accounting and finance, of Cheshire; Bradley Sherman, majoring in entrepreneurship, of Cheshire.
