The family of Kenneth Richard Burgess announces his sudden passing on July 1, 2018 in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Born on August 6, 1925, in Beacon Falls, CT, he was the son of Eugene and Gertrude Carrington Burgess. Ken attended school in Beacon Falls, then was a student at Seymour High School, leaving before his senior year to enter the army to fight in World War II. Ken was wounded twice on the battlefiel­ds of France and received a Purple Heart. When he returned to the United States, he finished high school and attended the University of Connecticu­t. Ken worked for the State of Connecticu­t for 30 years, retiring as a supervisin­g investigat­or in Central Collection­s. Ken lived in Derby, CT, for more than 30 years, coaching Little League baseball for 20 of those. He then moved to Milford before settling in New Smyrna Beach. Ken greatly enjoyed family vacations, particular­ly beach vacations, and spending time with family, especially his grandchild­ren. Ken is survived by his son Kenneth W. Burgess and his wife Carla of Milford; his daughter Maureen Fiorentino and her husband Patrick of Oak Ridge, NC; his daughter Cathleen Burgess and her wife Marie of Santa Rita, Guam; his grandchild­ren William and Stacy Burgess, Jeffrey Fiorentino, Shannon Fiorentino Raab, Kimberly Fiorentino, and Benjamin and Emily Burgess; his sister-in-law Elizabeth Burgess of Dayton, OH; as well as many nieces and nephews. Ken was predecease­d by his beloved wife of nearly 62 years, Kathleen O’Connor Burgess, his infant daughter Pamela Jean, his brothers John Carroll, Henry McDonald, Robert Burgess, and Ronald Burgess. A memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church in New Smyrna Beach. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in July, 2019. Contributi­ons in Kenneth’s memory can be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O.
