THOMAS FRANCIS MAXWELL, 84, formerly of West Haven, CT, passed away peacefully August 8, 2018 surrounded by all of his loving family.

He is survived by his cherished wife of 63 years Irene Maxwell (nee Gwinnell), devoted father of Katherine Horvath (Peter) of Naperville, IL, and Richard Maxwell of San Francisco, CA, proud grandfathe­r of Daniel Horvath of Chicago, IL and Kaitlin Curry (Eric) of Seattle, WA.

Tom was born in New Haven, CT. on July 17, 1934, the son of late Thomas P. Maxwell and Marie Byrne Maxwell. He is preceded in death by his son, Thomas F. Maxwell Jr., and his sister Patricia Integlia.

He was extremely proud of his service in the United States Navy. He was a gunners mate serving on the USS Oriskany during the Korean War earning many medals. After the war, he became a loyal member of the Internatio­nal Brotherhoo­d of Electrical Workers Local 90, where he formed many lifelong friendship­s in the New Haven area as well as in his travels as a union brother. Tom always was looking to help his fellow brothers and sisters, cofounding the Brotherhoo­d Fund which benefited those in need.

In 1992, Tom and Irene pursued his dream of retiring to Florida. He was a proud member of the Elks, American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He truly enjoyed his retirement. Tom never met a stranger, all were welcome in his home. He had a great sense of humor. His infectious smile will be dearly missed.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on September 14, 2018 at St Raphael’s Catholic Church, Naperville, IL at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial with full military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, please make a contributi­on to a charity of your choice, in his name.
