Crouse alumni hockey game set

The 21st annual Art Crouse Alumni game will be held Saturday at the Bennett Rink in West Haven.

WEST HAVEN HALL OF FAME

The West Haven Hall of Fame Committee has announced its newest inductees to be honored, Dec. 15 at Cielo, West Haven ItalianAme­rican Club.

Included in the Class of 2018 are Vin Nitido, Rick McInnis, Dave Anquillare, Alison Karosas, Tracy Bagnoli Guyette, George DeMaio, and the hockey line of Dave Depew, Steve Balaban, and Frank Longobardi.

Nitido (1951 graduate) played football and was also a three-year member of the swim and track teams. McInnis (1969) was a safety on the 1968 undefeated football team which finished ranked first in New England and fifth in the United States. McInnis has also been a basketball official for 37 years.

Anquillare (1989) joins his father John and brother Mike in the Hall, all former standout baseball players. Karosas is a former fouryear volleyball, basketball and track star. Bagnoli Guyette (1987) starred on the volleyball, basketball and softball teams. Bagnoli Guyette was a three-year starter on the softball team, and captain of the volleyball team her junior and senior campaigns.

DeMaio (1966) played basketball and baseball and was named the West Haven High School Athlete of the Year in 1966. He is a longtime area broadcaste­r at

960 WELI for high school sporting events. Depew, Balaban, and Longobardi formed one of the most feared lines on the ice in the 1970s, set a school line record of 80 goals, and a school record in wins with 18. With the G.A.P. line finishing one, two, and four in the state in scoring, the team advanced to the championsh­ip game against Hamden.

SAULSBURY INVITATION­AL

The fourth annual Robert Saulsbury Invitation­al will be held Dec. 27 at Wilbur Cross.

There will be four games: Amistad vs. Kolbe Cathedral at 1 p.m., Career vs. Weaver at 2:45, the Wilbur Cross girls hosting reigning Class LL state champion Mercy at 5 and the Wilbur Cross boys hosting Hamden at approximat­ely 6:45.

Several people will be honored in between games two and three. They are: John Stewart, former coach and athletic director at Gateway Community College; Jon Capone, longtime West Haven athletic director; Sabrina Johnson Breland, former standout at both Cross and St. John’s University, who coached Hillhouse to a pair of state championsh­ips in girls basketball; Tharon Mayes, the former Hillhouse and Florida State standout; Jason Bartlett, director of youth services and liaison to the New Haven Board of Education, Office of the Mayor; and New Haven citywide athletic director Erik Patchkofsk­y and the New Haven Athletics Department.
