MEN’S LACROSSE
Yale’s Shay named coach of the year: Yale men’s lacrosse coach Andy Shay has been named the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association 2018 Coach of the Year.
Shay and the Bulldogs put together a school-best 17-3 season that included an Ivy League championship before beating four lacrosse powers in the NCAA tournament to claim Yale’s first national championship.
“This is an honor that is a reflection of the best assistant coaches a head coach could imagine, as well as the most overachieving team. It’s hard to believe I deserve a singular award when I think of what all the people in our program did,” Shay said in a release from the school.
The last nine seasons under Shay have been historic for the program on many levels. The Bulldogs have gone 103-40 with eight 10-win seasons, while their .700 winning percentage is a program best.
