KEEP AN EYE ON

‘Walk’ in the right direction: Megan Walker has always had a nose for scoring. Her ability to put the ball in the basket at a young age is part of what made the Virginia product the

No. 1 recruit in the country in 2017.

“She always could score,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said Tuesday following practice at the

Werth Center. “That was always a big deal. She was a streaky shooter. There were times when all of them would go in, and there were times when she would struggle with it.”

Walker focused on expanding her offensive repertoire this past offseason, working on her 3-point shot.

Auriemma has seen that work pay off. Walker has become a more versatile player on offense, shooting 44.7 percent from 3-point range — up from 37.1 percent her freshman year.

“You can the difference,” Auriemma said of Walker, who sank all three of her 3-point attempts in Sunday’s 78-41 win over UCF. “We talked about it yesterday, what you’ve got to figure out is what are your strengths and what are your weaknesses? How are you really going to attack your weaknesses? She decided that she wanted to become a more consistent 3-point shooter, so she’s become that.”

Adapting to the grind: Christyn Williams played 37 games her senior season at Central Arkansas Christian School. If all goes well, of course, Williams and the Huskies will hit that mark in early April.

The freshman guard said the length of the college season is still something she’s getting used to.

“As a freshman, a college athlete, you’re going to be tired regardless,” Williams said. “You’ve never worked this hard in before in your life. I feel it’s pretty normal. Soreness, that’s normal.”

With that said, Williams has looked rejuvenated of late, averaging 13.7 points over the last four games. She was named American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week after dropping 19 points against South Carolina and 12 against UCF.

Consistent Collier:

With 2,103 career points, forward Napheesa Collier is 30 points away from tying Rebecca Lobo for ninth on UConn’s all-time scoring list. Collier is coming off an 18-point effort against UCF and leads the Huskies in scoring at 19.8 points per game. PROBABLE STARTERS
