Putting a stop to ‘fake news’

-

The March 1 forum, “Americans need to put citizens first,” is in desperate need of a fact-checker. I realize the importance of the First Amendment, and I know it’s not practical for a newspaper to check every fact before publishing. However, by not checking anything, you become part of the problem. Say something enough times, and people start to believe it. The Russians depend on it. That’s how we ended up with this terribly flawed president.

As to the forum piece, thousands of immigrants are not streaming through our borders. The numbers are down significantly, and most are asylum seekers. The “crisis” was manufactured by the president. Past presidents never supported the idea of a “wall.” They supported sensible border security, including barriers in certain areas. Regarding Iran, we did not “give them $150 billion.” We returned what was theirs, what we had previously seized. The left does not advocate “open borders.” We do not pay $150 billion per year for sanctuary cities. The president’s accomplishments do not include a tax plan that favors the rich. He gets little credit for the “booming economy” or low unemployment as the trend started with Obama. Walls around homes simply delineate boundaries, they do not keep intruders from entering. Children were separated from their parents, and many remain separated. The New York abortion ruling allows for late term abortions only under extreme circumstances. No one is suggesting that abortion is “moral,” but we must respect women’s rights, while at the same time doing everything possible to reduce the number of abortions. Illegals are less crime prone than the general population.

This forum piece is what fake news is all about and we have to stop it. Fred Vigorito Guilford
