Shelton police bust Derby man in fatal drug sale

- By Michael P. Mayko

SHELTON — A fatal drug overdose this summer in Shelton led to the arrest of a Derby man Monday.

Police arrested Dion Sanders, 22, of Derby on charges of sale of narcotics, possession of narcotics and firstdegree reckless endangerment. Sanders is being held on $250,000 following his appearance Tuesday in state Superior Court in Derby.

The arrest stemmed from the death of a 25year old woman in Shelton following her use of drugs police believe she bought from Sanders earlier in the day.

Sanders is no stranger to Derby police who have arrested him numerous times in the past three years.

Once he became a person of interest in the fatal overdose Shelton and Derby police began a joint investigation. That evidence enabled them to convince a

Superior Court judge to sign off on a search and seizure warrant for his Derby home. The evidence seized is expected to result in additional arrests, police said..

He was convicted in state Superior Court in Derby for a Nov. 21, 2016 assault in which he received a year sentence suspended to two years probation on Sept. 25, 2017. He also received an unconditional discharge on Oct. 27, 2017 for interferring with a police officer.

Derby police have since arrested him on numerous charges including drug possession, narcotics sales, engaging officers in pursuit theft of a firearm and more. He now has five separate cases pending in state Superior Court in Derby.
