The Knights of St. Patrick’s recently held the 44th annual Public Safety Night, held to show appreciation for the public servants who contribute to the safety of the community. The Garden Club of Woodbridge hosted the Garden Club of Orange on Oct. 15. There was a full house as guest speaker Stephanie Fusco of Terri’s Flower Shop in Naugatuck created designs for the four seasons. Orange and pink “Free Spirit” roses, yellow mums, kangaroo paw, seeded eucalyptus (to give texture) and alstroemeria were used in the designs. Fusco used dried, curly willow branches to make a trellis for the summer design, and showed the group how to make a tied floral bouquet by adding flowers at a 45 degree angle to keep the design balanced. Club members entered a raffle to take home Terri’s designs. On a wet and windy Halloween afternoon, several members of the Hamden Woman’s Club’s Homelife Committee made a trip to the Children’s Center of Hamden with car trunks jam-packed with a special surprise. Thanks to the support of the Cheshire Nursery, the HWC was able to purchase 100 sugar pumpkins to give to these special children at the center. Students were originally going to choose their pumpkins from a car trunk, but because of the stormy weather, the event took place inside the school. On Halloween, everyone gets lots of candy — so this was something new and different for the children.
