MACKAY, MURIEL C.

-

Muriel Carter MacKay, widow of William MacKay, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, February 22nd. Muriel was born in Hamden, CT to Rose E. Razee and Henry John Carter. March 23rd would have been Muriel’s 85th birthday. Muriel graduated from the University of New Haven with both a Bachelor’s and Master of Business Administration degree. She spent many years of her working life at the University of New Haven as an administrator of continuing education. One of her proudest accomplishments was coordinating the establishment of a degree program for shipyard foremen at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corporation. After leaving the University of New Haven, Muriel joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of CT, as a training and development administrator. At the time of her retirement, she was the Manager of Health Analysis.

Over the years, Muriel courageously faced major losses in her life: the early death of her husband William and the tragic loss of her daughter, Bonnie Jean Mac Kay Belanger on February 25, 2010.

In recent years, she took happiness from her gardens, her dog “Greta”, reading- especially mysteries, needlework, and maintaining a warm and welcoming home that was always open to her friends. Muriel loved her home and her grandson William even more.

Muriel was known by all of her family and friends to be truly generous, loyal, and caring. She would go out of her way to support anyone she knew was in need. Whether she was caring for a friend or working on a project, she was highly organized and planned even the smallest detail of what needed to be done.

Muriel leaves behind her daughter Lauren MacKay Munro, grandson William D. Munro, as well as special cousins George (Nancy) Razee and the Barton Family. Arrangements have been entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Friday, March 5th at 11 o’clock, followed by interment at Bare Plain Cemetery in North Branford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, Inc. at 103 Vision Way, Broomfield, CT 06002.
