New Haven Register (New Haven, CT)

FREEMAN, GERALDINE

-

Geraldine Freeman passed peacefully on March 4, 2021 at Bridgeport Hospital. Geri was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Arthur; and is survived by her sons Bruce (Katharine “Kipp”), Craig (Laurie), and Gary (Arlene-deceased); her grandchildren Heidi, Brian (June), Adam (Rachel), Amanda, Molly, Meredith, and Scott; four great-grandchildren Evelyn, Abigail, Maia, and Samuel; and her brother Alan Friedman.

Geri was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 13, 1932 to Frank and Mildred Friedman. She graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Bronx in 1950 and married Arthur on January 28, 1951. She and Arthur started their lifetime adventure in Bridgeport, CT where Arthur was on a GE engineering training program; then moved to Pittsfield, MA; next to Allentown, PA where they began their family; and subsequently lived in Brockport, NY, the Republic of Singapore, and finally in Shelton, CT.

Geri enjoyed reading paperback novels and amassed a collection of several hundreds of books. Over her 88 years, she was involved in Jr. Women’s Club; local bridge clubs; and attending athletic events, band concerts, art shows, and other activities associated with raising her three sons, and later, her seven grandchildren. She had many close friends and was very family-centric. She was a wonderfully supportive wife and mother, bonded with her daughters-in-law as the daughters she never had, and later, was the stereotypical doting grandmother and great-grandmother. Whether you knew her as Geri, Mom, or Nana, she stayed in touch with extended family, her brother, her in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends, and friends of her children and grandchildren. She kept addresses on index cards and was known for sending birthday cards to all she knew. Geri was a woman who wanted no more from life but to love and be loved by family and to always be there for family and friends. She was the best and we will all miss her beyond words but our many happy memories of her and her love will last forever. A Private Graveside Service will be held in NY. The Robert E. Shure & Son Funeral Home, New Haven is in care of Arrangements. Memorial Contributions in Geri’s name may be sent to the American Cancer Association or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. To sign an online registry book, leave a message of condolence or to watch the funeral live stream, please log on to: www.shurefuneralhome.com.
