Alphonse A. “Al” Ferraro, age 85, of Hamden and previously of Cheshire, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at CT Hospice in Branford, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Gladys (Peach) Ferraro for over 61 years. Alphonse was born on April 17, 1936 in New Haven, son of the late Alphonse and Eleanor (Ponzilla) Ferraro.

Al served our Country with honor and pride with the US Army and the Army Reserves. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the UConn School of Pharmacy and was the owner of Granniss Corner Pharmacy in New Haven. In his later years he was employed as a pharmacist by CVS. Al was involved in many community organizati­ons in Cheshire throughout his life, including the Town Council, of which he was Chairman, along with Chesprocot­t Health District and Cheshire RTC. An original parishione­r of St. Thomas Becket Church, Alphonse was the happiest when spending time with his large and adoring family, and cherished the relationsh­ips he built with all of his patrons at Granniss Corner Pharmacy. He was a kind and humble soul with a warm smile and infectious laugh. Although he is no longer with us in the physical sense, his spirit and love will always be by our side.

He is the beloved father of Jeffrey Ferraro, Paul Ferraro, Karen (Anthony) Cannata, and Laurie (David) Hearrin. Alphonse also leaves his loving grandchild­ren, Ashley (Dustin) Boone, Jeffrey, Matthew and Amanda Ferraro, Jenna, Jessica and Joseph Cannata, and Hunter and Mackenzie Hearrin; and his two great-grandchild­ren, Charlotte and Carson

Boone; his sisters, Marilyn (Earl) Riordan and Janice (William) Pruchnicki; his brothers-in-law, Raymond (Gloria) Peach and Thomas Peach; and his sister-in-law, Patricia Ferraro; and many nieces, nephews, greatniece­s and great-nephews. Al was predecease­d by his brother, Edward Ferraro and his sister-in-law, Paula Peach.

St., Cheshire, CT 06410 on Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. On Friday, May 21, 2021, friends are asked to meet directly at St. Bridget of Sweden Parish-St. Thomas Becket Church, 435 N. Brooksvale Rd., Cheshire for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery, Higgins Rd., Cheshire.
