STAMFORD — A former Wilton day care worker accused of assault after police said an infant under her care suffered “abusive head trauma” earlier this year pleaded not guilty Tuesday.

Amy Tingets, 39, of Norwalk, appeared at state Superior Court on Tuesday to face charges of first-degree assault and risk of injury to a child after a then-6-month-old boy suffered “severe head trauma” while under her watch at Wilton’s Goddard School, her former employer.

Tingets entered not guilty pleas to the two charges in the hearing.

Tingets is next scheduled to appear in court Sept. 20.

The charges for an incident on Feb. 9 — a week after the victim, described by authorities as a then-6-month-old Weston boy, and his 2-yearold brother started to attend the Danbury Road facility, according to authorities.

The boy apparently suffered “severe head trauma” that day, with first responders rushing to the day care center for a report of an infant who was unresponsive after a nap, according to the affidavit. The boy was taken to Norwalk Hospital, then Yale New Haven Hospital, where a team of clinicians certified in child abuse assessed his injuries.

Doctors at the hospital reported that the boy suffered bilateral subdural hematomas, the affidavit said. Doctors and his parents reported issues with his vision after this date, the affidavit said. The boy’s mother told investigators that the family was told by “several doctors that (the boy) had suffered from what appeared to be ‘shaken baby,’” after and during care, the affidavit said.
