UConn sets up homecoming game for Nelson-Ododa

- By Scott Ericson

In the tradition of setting up road games close to the homes of senior players, coach Geno Auriemma announced Tuesday the UConn women’s basketball team will travel to Atlanta on Dec. 9 to face Georgia Tech in McCamish Pavilion.

The game will serve as a homecoming for senior Olivia Nelson-Ododa, who is a native of Winder, Ga.

“Super excited to go back home and my family is going to be able to come see me play,” Nelson-Ododa said Tuesday. “I know my friends like that and so I’m just super excited to have that opportunity.”

Last season as a junior, Nelson-Ododa started all 30 games, scoring in double digits in 21 of those contests.

The 6-foot-5 forward averaged 12 points per game and finished the 2020-21 season with 234 rebounds and 53 blocks.

UConn won the previous two meetings against the Yellow Jackets with the last game coming in 2010.

The Yellow Jackets are the third confirmed ACC opponent next season for the Huskies, who will also face former Big East foes now in the ACC Notre Dame and Louisville.

UConn will host Notre Dame while taking on Louisville at Mohegan Sun Arena as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase.

Georgia Tech made it to the Sweet 16 last season, finishing the year with a 17-9 record.

UConn also has a confirmed out-of-conference home game against Tennessee and road games at Oregon and South Carolina.

The Huskies are also scheduled to play in the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas.
