NEW HAVEN — Neighbors of Tweed New Haven Regional Airport and others interested in how airport expansion might affect adjacent neighborhoods will be able to get some answers Thursday when Tweed and its contract operator, Avports LLC, hold a public forum to share information about improvements.

The meeting will take place in person at Nathan Hale School, 480 Townsend Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. People also will be able to listen, but not ask questions, via Facebook Live on Mayor Justin Elicker’s Facebook page at https://bit.ly/3mw9GUS, said Assistant Economic Development Administrator Carlos Eyzaguirre.

It will address the overall plan for Tweed, including its recent master plan update, the proposed 43-year lease and agreement with Avports , and changes to accomodate the arrival of Avelo Airlines.

Tweed New Haven Airport Authority Executive Director Sean Scanlon said the meeting was organized by the city, not the airport, though he will be there to answer questions.

The meeting will take place one day after the City Plan Commission considers an application for improvements to the existing terminal and to add additional parking to accommodate the arrival of Avelo Airlines, a start-up airline that last week announced plans to begin flying between Tweed and four Florida cities — Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and Fort Myers — on Nov. 3.

The City Plan Commission will meet virtually at 6 p.m. Wednesday, at https://bit.ly/3BdKlTT.

The Tweed forum will take place four days before the Board of Alders’ Finance Committee holds the first public hearing on Tweed’s proposal to sign a 43-year lease and extension of Avport’s management contract. That meeting will take place virtually Monday at 6 p.m., at https://bit.ly/3srBieA.
