Class is back in session in Ansonia

- By Donald Eng

ANSONIA — Thursday was the first day of school in Ansonia, with an estimated 2,300 students heading back to class. Students entering the buildings were greeted by staff, including 26 new teachers. Assistant Superintendent Steve Bergin, who is filling in for Superintendent Joseph DiBacco until October, said students will notice new maker spaces — shared spaces for students with common interests — and an increased emphasis on STEM instruction.

“We went to other school districts (and the) Wallingford Public Library and looked at the best structures and equipment and used that as a model,” Bergin said.

In preparation for schools reopening, the district held a COVID-19 vaccination clinic last week, and plans to hold another in early September.
