MaryAnn Connors

-

MaryAnn Connors of Hamden passed away on August 22, 2021, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. At her side when she passed, as he had been for over 55 years, was her devoted husband Leo M. Connors,

Sr. She met Leo at a CYO dance while in high school. Together they had a beautiful life and three children – Kristin, Kathleen “Katie,” and Leo. Her family was her proudest success. MaryAnn was born in New Haven on March 7, 1943, daughter of the late Anthony and Ann Esposito Silvestrini, sister to Anthony, John, Carol and Michael. MaryAnn was a Librarian for the Town of North Haven for many years. She was a member of the Catholic Charity League, The High Lane Club, the women’s golf league at the New Haven Country Club, and the New Haveners.

She also enjoyed card club, mahjong, cooking classes, book club, and opera at the Metropolitan with friends. Friends and their activities together brought so much joy to MaryAnn. However, it was the family events that were most important to her. Each birthday and holiday were opportunities to gather everyone. She was truly the matriarch of the family – making sure that no event went uncelebrated. Her traditional Italian, multi-course dinners lasted for hours and were filled with laughter as generations gathered. No detail was missed by her and her sister Carol. She traveled the world with Leo, but summer vacations on Cape Cod and other family vacations were most treasured by her. She will be so missed by her children, Kristin Connors and her husband Douglas Mahoney, Katie Connors, and Leo M. Connors, Jr. and his wife Courtney, as well as siblings Carol (Tom) Capecelatro, John Silvestrini, Michael Silvestrini, and the late Anthony Silvestrini. She was a loving grandmother “Nonnie” to Caroline and Patrick Mahoney and Ava, Leo III, and Roy Connors. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved Aunt MaryAnn. As well as many dear, close friends too numerous to name.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday afternoon from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc., 11 Wooster Place in New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 5 Hillhouse Ave. in New Haven. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
