Four people shot over weekend, woman found dead in river, police say
NEW HAVEN — Four people were shot and a woman was found dead in the Quinnipiac River over the weekend, according to New Haven police.
In an email, Officer Scott Shumway said police received a Shotspotter alert for gunfire on Kimberly Avenue between Howard Avenue and Lamberton Street at roughly 8:47 p.m. Friday, finding a man, 20, and a woman, 41, who had been shot.
“American Medical Response transported both victims to Yale New Haven Hospital where the male was treated for life-threatening injuries and was listed in critical condition, and the female victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was listed in stable condition,” Shumway said.
Officers then received a call of a body found in the Quinnipiac River near the Tomlinson Bridge soon after 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Shumway said.
“Responding officers located a 32-year-old female in the water. New Haven Fire was on-scene and pronounced the woman deceased. This investigation is on-going,” said Shumway.
The following day, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert and calls of a person shot on Columbus Avenue between West and Redfield streets at about 3:40 p.m. Sunday, Shumway said.
“Responding officers located two victims, a 61year-old New Haven man, and a 39-year-old New Haven woman, who were struck by gunfire. American Medical Response transported both victims to Yale New Haven Hospital where they were treated for nonlife-threatening injuries,” said Shumway.
On behalf of the department, Shumway asked any witnesses who have not yet spoken with the police to contact the New Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division at 203-946-6304.
He said callers may remain anonymous or submit tips anonymously by calling 1-866-888-TIPS(8477), or texting “NHPD plus your message” to 274637 (CRIMES).
