Concerned about Tweed

-

I am deeply concerned by the proposed Tweed expansion. I’m especially concerned by the lack of real information about this deal, which will impact East Haven enormously. From the beginning the deal has been treated as necessary and important to the growth of the region, but details were always fudged.

It’s been launched into the press like it’s a done deal. This deal has so many potential dangers, and if town leaders have their way we will sign first and cry later.

Here’s what’s missing: how does this benefit East Haven in any way? Jobs, they say, but we have no written labor agreement. Economy, they say, but we have no economic pro forma. This will fix the flooding? But the environmental assessment has not even started. The promoters even claimed an EIS isn’t necessary! Since it’s a private development.

There have been no traffic plans and no cargo/air freight discussions. Constraints and conditions on flights are mostly ignored, if they do exist.

This is not at all a “done deal,” but from what the public can see it sure is a “dumb deal “Prove us wrong: host a public info meeting and release the details on this 43-year privatization deal.

We won’t stop organizing — we live here! Elizabeth Neuse
