Louis G. Onofrio, 78, of North Haven, formerly of Branford, passed peacefully on Sunday, August 29th, 2021, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 28 years to Lori DelGreco Onofrio and father of Gabrielle Onofrio. Louis was born in New Haven on September 11, 1942, and was the son of the late Nicholas B. Onofrio, Sr. and Vincenza DePalma Onofrio. A 1960 graduate of Wilbur Cross High School, he later served his country faithfully in the US Marine Corp from 1960 to 1964. Louis had worked for Echlin’s (formerly in Branford), the U.S. Postal Service, was a laborer for 15 ½ years with the Laborers Union Local #455 and was an Operating Engineer with the Local #478 for 35 years. He was a member of the

Pine Grove Men’s Club, the Branford Italian-American Club, was an active retiree of Local #478 previously holding office as Recording and Correspond­ing Secretary. Louis was a member of the Columbus Day Parade Committee, the St. Catello Society, was a mentor for the Branford School System for 13 years where he was honored as “Branford’s Youth Mentor of the Year” in 2011. He also volunteere­d as a driver for the CT Hospice. Father of Maria Carbone, and Deborah (Jeff) Bracale. Grandfathe­r of Jeffery and Nicholas Bracale, Michael Carbone. Brother of Nicholas B. Onofrio, Jr. and his wife Lena, and the late Dominic L. Onofrio. Also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering for the excellent care and comfort they provided.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven on Friday morning, Sept.

3rd at 10:00. Military honors will be rendered in front of the church immediatel­y following the mass. The family asks that you please comply with the CDC recommenda­tion that if you are not fully vaccinated masks must be worn for visiting hours and church services, thank you. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
