NEW HAVEN — An employee of a city pizzeria was taking out the trash over the weekend when an armed individual ran up and pointed a gun at him, leading him back into the store to take money from the register, according to the store’s owner.

Seyid Gent, who bought More Than Pizza on Blake Street about three months ago, said a worker was taking out the garbage Saturday night when a man ran up and pointed a gun at him.

The man, wearing a blue medical mask, came through the store’s back door around 11:30 p.m. He demanded money from the register, pointing the gun at a 19-year-old working the restaurant’s phones and telling him to get the cash for him, Gent told Hearst Connecticut Media Tuesday.

Gent said there were nine employees in the store at the time. He said the individual did not fire the gun. No one was hurt.

The store, which has been in business at that location for about six years, has never had something like this happen before, one

employee said.

Gent said the store has been working with police following the robbery.

Officer Scott Shumway said police got a 911 call about the armed robbery from the pizzeria at about 11:39 p.m. Arriving officers confirmed that an individual armed with a gun pointed it at a worker in the store

and demanded cash from the register. Shumway also confirmed there were no injuries.

Police ask any witnesses to call the Investigative Services Division at 203946-6304. Callers who want to remain anonymous can call 1-866-888-TIPS or text NHPD and the information to 274637.
