Build a walkway

-

Enough is enough with the crosswalk at 1209 Campbell Ave. in West Haven near the intersection with Route 1.

University of New Haven students walking between the main campus and the satellite campus on the east side of Campbell Avenue deserve all the safety possible. But the uniformed crossing guards who stop traffic to allow students to cross Campbell Avenue are completely oblivious to how many cars are stopped. I recently was traveling south at 7:30 am on Route 122, Forest Road and was forced to stop in the line of vehicles in the middle of the intersection of Route 1 and Campbell Avenue which blocked the intersection. This was very dangerous. And when I returned five hours later traveling in the opposite direction, this same crosswalk had traffic backed up to Ruden Street, a distance of almost a quarter of a mile.

The University of New Haven is an asset to the state and the city of West Haven. But it is now time for the university to quickly build an elevated walkway over Campbell Avenue and eliminate this street-level crosswalk.

It’s just a matter of time before a student or a motorist is seriously injured or killed.
