- By Scott Ericson

Anthony Giano has been named the new head varsity baseball coach at Cheshire Academy.

“It’s a great opportunity and it’s something I wanted to do,” Giano said in a press release. “I want to thank Head of School Julie Anderson, Associate Head of School David Dykeman and Director of Athletics Jim McCarthy for this opportunity.”

McCarthy spoke highly of Giano’s coaching experience and is excited about the future of the program.

“Anthony’s passion for the game and familiarity with our school culture make him a great fit to lead our program,” McCarthy said in a press release. “In addition, I’d like to thank David Dykeman for all the time and effort he gave to the program and all our student-athletes for the past three years.”

Giano has worked at Cheshire Academy since 2015, including as assistant coach of the varsity and junior varsity baseball programs.

He has nearly 30 years of coaching experience.

The school ties run deep with his three sons attending Cheshire Academy in Antonio 2019, Dante 2020, and Luca 2023, and his wife, Kristin Ornato-Giano, is the school’s student activities coordinator.

Giano said the team has a good mix of young and experienced players. He’s ready to start training and eager to get the season started.

“I really feel like I can give back to the kids, get the right student-athletes here to the school through recruiting, and really push the program to the next level. We’re going to grow as a team,” Giano said.
