Nicholas D. Langello, Sr., affectiona­tely known as “Pop” by his grandchild­ren, passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital on Monday, September 6, 2021. For the past 59 years, he has been the devoted husband of Rose Marie Panzo Langello. Nick was born in New Haven on November 9, 1935, to the late Dominick and Giovannina Errato Langello. He was a retired Police Officer for the town of East Haven. He was also an original member and longtime Treasurer for the New Haven Order of Police Centurions and a member of the EHPD Local 1662 where he was also an Executive Board Member. He received a degree from the University of New

Haven and was a faithful parishione­r and volunteer with St. Vincent dePaul Church. Nick loved spending time with his grandchild­ren and family. He could always be seen walking his grandchild­ren, his pride and joy, around the center of East Haven throughout their childhoods. When not with his family, he could definitely be found playing cards with several groups of friends that he has had for more than 30 years. He had a Monday & Tuesday night card crew. Special to his heart was his basement Wednesday night poker gang with his fellow retired police buddies. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Frances (Fran) Proto of Branford, Nicholas (Helen) Langello, Jr. of Northford, and Teresa Ann (Mark) Papa of North Haven, as well as five grandchild­ren, Dominick and Nicole Proto, Nicholas III and Dominick Langello and Samantha Rose Papa. Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by his beloved son Dominick N. Langello, a brother Michael Langello and a sister, Frances Pragano. Also, the beloved Uncle of several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will leave the East Haven Memorial Longobardi – Brennan Funeral Home, 425 Main St., East Haven, 203-467-1708 Monday morning at 10:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in the Parish of St. Pio of Pietrelcin­a at St. Vincent dePaul Church at 11 am.
