Seeking votes in Wallingford
I am honored to be running for a seat on the Board of Education. Being a varsity scholar in Sheehan’s Class of 2018 and an economics/public relations double-major at Quinnipiac, I would bring a student perspective to the board to help students and parents feel their voices are being heard. I presented student concerns to the board when I was Sheehan’s student council president and on a statewide student council with the state Board of Education. My experience is not one-sided as I have served on several district committees: diversity equity and inclusion committee, district leadership team, district wellness committee, and STEM steering committee.
I am a board member/food pantry leader at The Rock Church. I am a board member and grant allocator at the United Way, where I also served on a steering committee to plan community conversations about race with town leaders, including the school district and police department. I launched the YMCA Togetherhood Committee, which coordinated a family game night for all twelve schools and supply drives for Dag, Moran, and the homeless shelter. I am also active with Wallingford Jubilee 350, the Boys and Girls Club, and the library.
This is my second time running — I also ran last election. If elected, I will work tirelessly to transparently engage all stakeholders, teachers, parents, community members, and most importantly students, to keep us united in a vision that ensures an equitable and inclusive environment for all, cares for physical social and academic needs of students, and uses our budget and facilities to prepare our students starting with our youngest learners for the future.
