‘Hocus Pocus 2’ casting for extras in New England

- By Nicole Funaro

Orchards are opening for picking apples and pumpkins, and pumpkin spice lattés are back on menus. One more sign of fall’s arrival in New England: “Hocus Pocus 2” is filming and seeking extras to be part of the forthcoming feature film.

The film is set to premiere in 2022 on Disney+ and will feature stars of the original movie — Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy, according to IMDB.

The sequel will tell the story of three young women who “accidentally bring back the Sanderson Sisters to modern-day Salem,” according to IMDB, and are tasked with trying to stop the witches from “wreaking havoc on the world.”

According to Kendall Cooper Casting, the movie is set to film in Providence, R.I., and its surrounding area, and the agency is seeking “people local to the Providence, R.I., area” to work on the film from October through December.

While the casting agency was not immediately available for comment, the online casting application provides detailed qualifications for the extras it’s seeking.

One of the first questions on the application asks potential extras to identify if they are local to Providence. For those in Connecticut who want to be part of the film, there is an option for people within a two-hour driving radius who “can easily work as a local” or not The application also asks potential extras to share whether or not they are a SAG-AFTRA union member. Casting will be ongoing throughout the duration of the filming schedule.

The film is casting “children and adults of ALL ethnicities, ages, genders and sizes,” and the agency notes the production is specifically looking to cast extras with dance experience, men with longer hair, and people ages 18 to 22.

On the application are questions like “Do you have dance experience?” “Do you have any special skills?” and “Do you have any tattoos that would be visible in a standard short sleeve shirt or average-length shorts?”

Before any Nutmeggers start thinking about being part of the Halloween comedy, they should note all extras are expected to film Monday through Friday with a “12+ hour commitment for each day of work,” and no travel or housing will be provided, according to Kendall Cooper Casting.

Extras will also need to be tested for COVID-19 before they are allowed to work in person, according to Kendall Cooper Casting, and the production also “has adopted a mandatory vaccine requirement for Zone A and nonunion roles,” and all will require proof of vaccination.

Zone A refers to the cast and others that the cast would likely come in contact with, according to Deadline.
