STONE-OTIS HOUSE OPEN: The StoneOtis House, orange, is open every Sunday from 1-3 p.m. Admission is $3 per person, free under 12. The house was built in 1830 by Dennis Stone, who as a farmer, tilled the land but soon became a selectman, postmaster, constable, and tax collector and a well-respected man by the town’s citizens.. The house was restored by the Orange Historical Society representing Stones as well as the second owner, Charles Otis, an inventor and machinist. Both families have ancestral history worthy of their place in modern times, members said.

FALL VENDOR FAIR: The Friends of Beacon Falls Library is hosting a Fall Vendor Fair, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m .Sept. 18, St. Michaels Church Grounds, 25 Maple Avenue, Beacon Falls. DRIVE-UP SHREDDING: The James Blackstone Memorial Library, 758 Main St., Branford, will host a drive-up shredding event, 9 a.m.-noon, Sept. 18. SENIOR BEAUTY PAGEANT: On September 1, 2021, Hamden Rehabilitation and Health Care Center launched a pageant open to all Connecticut senior women, Contestants are asked to submit a video introduction of themselves, a life motto or biggest joy of life, and a talent. Talents can be a simple prayer or poem reading, a magic trick, a song, or a dance. All submissions must be received by 5 p.m. Oct. 20, and emailed to Michelle Riley at mriley@hamdenhealth.com. Winners will be awarded prizes, crowns, and gifts from local businesses for each decade of contestants. ProCare LTC, Long Term Care Pharmacy Services has just signed on to become a Gold Sponsor at the $750 level. A pageant party will be held Nov. 12. Official contestant guides are available for download at www.hamdenhealth.com GOLF BALL DROP: The East Haven Rotary Club will be holding their very first Great Golf Ball Drop Raffle”, in partnership with the Foxon Recreation League at 1 p.m. Saturday. A helicopter will drop some 900 numbered golf balls onto the Foxon Recreation League’s field (aka “The Pit”) on Maple Street in the Foxon area of East Haven. The ball that lands closest to the marked target in the field with win the holder of the ticket that matches that numbered ball, $1500 in cash. The person with the matching number ticket for the second closest ball will win a $ 500 cash prize. Winners need not be present and the ball drop will be live on the club’s Facebook page.

LENDER BAGEL RUN: The 10th Annual Murray Lender 5K Bagel Run sponsored by Titan Energy, Sept. 19 at the New Haven Jewish Community Center, with music, professional race timing, post-event festivities, and fun for runners and walkers of all ages. Day-of registration at 7:30 a.m., and the walk/run kicking off at 9 a.m. Registration is $35 and includes a t-shirt. The registration fees will increase by $5 after Sept. 10. CRAFTERS, VENDORS WANTED: Faith United Methodist Church located at 81 Clintonville Road, North Haven, is seeking crafters/vendors for its annual Fall Fair to be held Nov. 13 from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Cost is $30 per 6-foot table. A donation to the church raffle table of a themed gift basket to include a sample of the vendor’s product and their business card is also encouraged. Indoor and outdoor space is available for this popular event. Outdoor vendors must supply their own tents if they wish to have protection from the weather. BIRD WALK: The North Haven Trail Association will host a bird walk at the Tidal Marsh Trail at 9 a.m. Sept. 25. During an easy walk along the Quinnipiac River, Chris Loscalzo a local bird expert and enthusiast will be the guide. The trail is located behind Target in North Haven. A lucky participant will receive a signed Frank Gallo book, Birding in Connecticut. Rain cancels.
